It has never qualified for the World Cup.After being considered one of the weakest teams in CONCACAF for decades, Panama is currently undergoing a resurgence. It made a surprising trip to the final round of regional qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and then shocked everyone by reaching the final game of the 2005 Gold Cup. Nowadays, under the direction of former Costa Rica head coach Alexandre Guimaraes and with some skilful players from MLS, Colombian, Mexican, Portuguese, Bulgarian and Spanish leagues, Panama is considered to be one of the best teams in CONCACAF (as of June, 2007, it is ranked 4th among CONCACAF teams according to the monthly FIFA World Rankings
