Club Deportivo Guadalajara, also known as Guadalajara, usually referred to by its nickname Chivas (Goats), is a Mexican association football team. The team is based in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and currently competes in the Primera División de México.
Guadalajara is the only football club in Mexico's history to exclusively field Mexican born players. It plays in the Primera División de México, and is one of the only two teams in Mexico that have never been relegated to the 2nd Division the other being América. Along with América, they are the two most popular and supported clubs in Mexico, and their meetings signal the national derby (see el Superclásico). The team's popularity in the U.S. has led to the creation of a Major League Soccer expansion club in the United States, Chivas USA, which was initially to be comprised of Mexican and Mexican-American players (but now features a roster similar to other MLS clubs). On December 10, 2006 Guadalajara won its 11th professionalchampionship, the most in Mexican football history.
